Position Overview


The Confidential Assistant to the Warden position, located at Jacksonville Correctional Center, serves as a confidential assistant to the Warden. This position performs highly confidential, sensitive administrative tasks in a diverse agency. This position serves as liaison to IDOC Labor on employee grievances and contract issues and serves as the Employee Review Hearing Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be able to process information and materials in a timely manner and convey information effectively through both written and oral reporting. This position is responsible for overseeing all human resource transactions including participation in the Rutan interview process. The ideal candidate would be a self-motivated, task oriented, organized individual with strong interpersonal skills. A background in policy and procedure would be a plus for our ideal candidate. We are looking for an energetic candidate looking to be integral part of the Administrative Team, working with both administrative staff at the institution level as well as executive staff at the Department of Corrections. Job Responsibilities


  • Serves as Employee Review Officer, reviews all Employee Review Board (ERB) recommendations for consistency and appropriateness of action.
  • Serves as confidential assistant performing duties which are sensitive and controversial in nature and which have a direct impact on the credibility of agency operations and programs.
  • Coordinates background investigation process for staff and volunteers.
  • Serves as full-line supervisor.
  • Serves as Media Liaison for Jacksonville Correctional Center.
  • Establishes and maintains files for documents on pending requests for information, studies and surveys.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in a public or private organization.


Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)


  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with employee discipline.
  • Prefers the ability to work in a confidential setting.
  • Prefers t least one (1) year of experience working in a correctional setting.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of personnel and labor relations policies and practices.
  • Prefers excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience working with databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
  • Prefers the ability to apply human relations skills in interaction with management, representatives of government, private industry , and the public.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience researching and interpreting bargaining unit contracts.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
