Day & Zimmermann is actively accepting applications for a Construction Manager for Industrial Construction and Maintenance Projects to be based remotely. Ideal candidates will be located in the Northeast and able to travel to work on client sites as needed.

The Construction Manager for Industrial with Day & Zimmermann is responsible for the full life cycle of Industrial construction projects including estimating, planning and project execution. The Construction Manager is responsible for the final project meeting/exceeding safety, financial, operational, and customer goals. They will also be responsible for the successful oversight of all project construction obligations including recruiting and hiring field supervision and implementation of the craft/labor agreements. The individual will drive the Day & Zimmermann culture and values, accountability, use of defined processes and procedures, consistency in execution and Continuous Improvement Program.

The Big Picture – Top Skills You Should Possess:

  • Technical/Industry Expertise: 10+ years background in estimating and executing construction projects for a union contractor in Industrial markets (chemical/pulp & paper/mfg). Strong knowledge and experience in project management and project controls is a must. Experience managing union direct craft labor and subcontractors is also required. Understanding of PSM (process safety management) a plus.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Serve as the principal customer contact for strategic business development opportunities.
  • Champion the organization's commitment to safety and demonstrate a strong personal commitment to safety and D&Z values by providing leadership and establishing expectations and accountability related to the execution of an effective Customer and D&Z safety program across the entire Business Line.
  • Recruit and hire team members to support the businesses growth in construction management and site supervision roles.
  • Conduct tactical reviews of the site work plans to ensure adequate organizational resources are prioritized and deployed to support the contract requirements.
  • Ensure effective project and contract management governance, procedures, tools and financial controls are established and maintained.
  • Effectively partner with functional areas via the appropriate Project Support Team to achieve shared goals, resolve conflicts, and establish/promote best practices and process improvement.

What You Need To Bring To The Table:

  • 10+ years of experience planning/executing maintenance and project work in the Industrial market
  • Willingness to travel as required to support Day & Zimmermann Industrial operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing local union foreman, superintendents, and craft laborers. Must have experience directly coordinating and negotiating with Unions, and must have thorough understanding of Union contracts and the constraints within an agreement.
  • Experience with cost management/project controls with a comprehensive understanding of Fixed-Price contracts.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and experienced with reading construction drawings
  • Motivation to open new doors and the desire to see your results on the bottom line.
