Medical Assistant (100% Remote, Full Time Contract) Job at Amalgamated Medical Care Management, Inc.
This position is 100% remote for a certified MA to support clinics.
Job Summary:
Performs patient care under the physician’s/nurse’s direct supervision. Duties include, but are not limited to; preparing patient record for physician, administering, obtaining and recording diagnostic laboratory test results. Assists in coordinating organization of care to meet patient needs including, preparing, organizing and filing reports into the medical record.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Handles patient situations over the phone, schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals. Understands limitations in dealing with patients over the phone, and involves nursing staff and providers.
Pends orders, managers primary practice clinic's email and/or EMR in basket
· Register new patients and establishes a medical record.
· Prepares patient billings.
· Assists patients by filling out insurance and other forms.
· Supplies authorized information upon request by third party payors.
· Verbally instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures.
- Collaborates with members of the health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care; may record reason for visit and related patient information for practitioner review.
- May participate in pre-visit chart preparation by ensuring required lab results and documentation are available in the medical record for practitioner review (for practices using paper medical records).
- Performs variety of other clerical functions such as filing of paper medical records, processing insurance forms, preparing financial records, photocopying, answering phones, and assuring efficient flow of patients, etc.
- Collaborates with members of the care team including primary care physicians, nurses office staff, care managers and others to assist in patient care.
- Maintains appropriate office records and ensures that charts are up to date at the start of each session.
- Assists providers and nurses with patient specific quality measures and ensures that the patient's experience is excellent
- Correctly identifies patients using patient name and date of birth per policy and procedure.
- Queries patients for presence of pain; documents appropriately and reports to nurse/provider.
- Queries patients about tobacco use/readiness to quit; documents in EMR and reports to the nurse/provider.
- Demonstrates ability to, and follow policies, procedures and protocols for, emergencies.
- Contacts cancelations and schedules appointments for patients as directed by the nurse/provider.
- Contacts patients to verify appointments as directed by the nurse/provider.
- Participates in Practice Performance Improvement activities.
- Verbalizes an understanding of their role in identifying and reporting suspected abuse according to policy and procedure.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
· Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program required.
· Previous experience in office or outpatient ambulatory care setting strongly preferred.
· Demonstrated strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team.
· Computer skills required.
Required Licensure/Certification Skills:
· American Association Medical Assistants (AAMA) certified - CMA designation OR American Medical Technologists (AMT) registered – RMA designation OR CCMA designation.
· Current BLS certification required.
· Currently Registered with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians
Knowledge and skills:
· Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding.
· Knowledge of medical claims systems.
· Understanding of medical terminology.
· Excellent telephone and customer service skills.
· Ability to multi-task and cross-train.
· Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
· Understanding of healthcare delivery system.
· Ability to work in a team environment.
· Follows established policy and procedure at all times.
Work Environment:
· Home office that is HIPAA compliance at all times
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
