We are currently seeking a motivated, caring and empathetic EMT or RN to join our team. This position is responsible to outreach, evaluate and intervene with individuals and their significant others in the community with the goal of preventing the escalation and deescalating behavioral health crisis to avoid unnecessary hospital and criminal justice involvement. The position requires an EMT trained individual or an RN to conduct healthcare triage in the community to determine whether more advanced medical care is needed. This emergency response specialist will work with a mobile crisis outreach worker as a two person team with additional clinical support from NMH adult and Children’s emergency Services program.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Community based triage and assessment
- Utilizes trauma-informed care, de-escalation and engagement strategies to help divert behavioral health crisis from unnecessary hospital and criminal justice involvement
- Administers individual care, basic first aid and basic emergency medical practices, as required by treatment protocols and company policies
- Delivers quality individual care in accordance with clinical policies, statewide protocol, and standards of care
- Attends all mandated company training and submits proof of completing equivalent training to the clinical department in a timely fashion
- Attends to all individuals in a courteous and professional manner
- Follow NMH policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines
- Communicate effectively with EMT agencies, physicians, and other health care providers.
- Always communicates with individuals, family members, and other community members at the scene and at the hospital / facility in a courteous and professional manner always.
- Complete and assists in the completion of necessary individual care reports and other documentation in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Completes vehicle and equipment checklists every shift and maintains vans and other company vehicles and equipment in a clean and efficient working order, and ensures van is appropriately stocked. This includes washing the vehicles at the end of each shift.
- Maintain all required certifications as an active EMT provider and supply the company with valid copies of all certifications and driver's license prior to their expiration dates.
- Must maintain a reliable attendance record and be punctual for shifts.
- Observes, records, and reports to physician, individual’s conditions, and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Perform daily housekeeping duties at all assigned bases of operations
- Properly loads, secures, and transports individuals in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Provide medical examination and screening of individuals consistent with company Protocols.
- Uses safety and PPE equipment as required by law and company policies.
Education and experience:
- Rhode Island EMT or RN License
- 1 year of experience as a RN or EMT preferred.
- Mobile Crisis experience preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
We offer a competitive salary between $72,000 to $82,000 based on experience and education and an additional $3,000 bilingual stipend.
