Provides direct and indirect patient care in the nursing unit setting under the supervision of an assigned preceptor. Learns to function as liaison between patients, families, physicians and other healthcare providers. Under preceptor supervision, communicates with physicians, unit director, house supervisors, and co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and changing symptoms. Also communicates with Discharge Planner regarding both in-hospital and post discharge needs. Increasingly responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Grows in time management abilities and critical thinking. Develops strong documentation techniques.
Essential Functions:
Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient's age.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Current Unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse Licensure is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Moderate computer skills are required, specifically using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); prior use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for documenting in patient records is preferred.

Essential Functions:
Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient's age.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
- Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. Interact professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patient population served. Able to interpret data about the patient's status to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
- Familiar with policies, procedures, and protocols. Care and documentation meets current standards of practice and complies with all such guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the department and organizational performance in accordance with Curry Health Network's Mission, Vision and Shared Values.
Minimum Education & Experience:
Current Unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse Licensure is required.
- Current American Heart Association ACLS and BLS certification is required within 6 months.
- Must obtain PALS or ENPC, TNCC, NRP and STABLE certifications within 12 months of hire.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Moderate computer skills are required, specifically using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); prior use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for documenting in patient records is preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.
- A demonstrated ability to work well in high pressure situations is required.
