Pharmacy Technician Job at Pinehurst Medical Clinic
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in prescription processing, inventory control and claims processing. This includes interaction with patients and clinical and support staff and assistance with daily pharmacy operations. The Pharmacy Technician helps assure appropriate and accurate dispensing of prescribed medications and maintenance of appropriate records and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
· Assists the pharmacist in filling new and refill prescriptions, including entering into the computer.
· Maintains medications and workspace in a neat and orderly manner.
· Maintains inventory and supplies by ensuring and adjusting appropriate inventory and reorder levels.
· Includes adding new medications as demand requires and updating/adding shelf labels.
· Maintains knowledge of pharmaceutical information, terminology and abbreviations to successfully interpret and process and compound prescriptions accurately.
· Verifies, inputs and resolves insurance discrepancies including conferring with insurance carriers and processors.
· Receives and checks in medication order and stock shelves.
· Operates cash register and is familiar with POS (Point of Sale) utilities including OTC item ordering and inventory maintenance. Provides accurate cash register reconciliation and prepares deposit on a daily basis.
· Reviews medications not picked up on a regular basis and puts back into stock or calls patient as appropriate.
· Reviews patient records in Allscripts EMR to obtain necessary information.
· Reports computer/technical issues to supervisor and support provider.
· Sends prior authorizations to call center and follows up when approved.
· Organizes and files hard copies of prescriptions and other records as appropriate.
· Participates in prescription transfers appropriately transcribing information accurately.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education (Including Licenses and Certifications):
· High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
· National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) preferred.
· Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy within 90 days of hire date.
Experience:
· Two year’s work as a pharmacy technician. Retail experience is preferred.
· Understanding of pharmacy insurance and the insurance billing process.
