Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide the direction, support and resources to motivate the safest possible grocery distribution center. Working directly with site leadership and operational managers, the Safety Specialist will help manage the inherent risks of a 500,000 sq foot, 500 employee perishable distribution center. We seek a motivated professional that can identify and evaluate risk exposures and develop and strengthen existing processes to reduce risk exposures and improve safety performance.

This position works closely with supply chain leadership in setting safety performance targets, educating management and workers, measuring progress and establishing/executing plans for continuous improvement.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for deploying, implementing, and leading the company safety strategy within the Giant Fresh Distribution Center by integrating safety practices, standards and compliance to operations management.
• Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of safety systems and the modifications needed to achieve optimum results.
• Responsibility for supporting safety processes to minimize worker injury risk
• Support implementation and execution of company health and safety policies and procedures, and State OSHA regulations
• Perform risk assessments and assist in the implementation of effective physical and/ or behavioral control measures. Recognize and verify the effectiveness of in-place control measures
• Identify and incorporate best practices to continuously improve company safety systems and practices

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree
• 1-5 years experience in safety management
• Strong coaching, training and motivational skills: ability to lead preferred
