We are currently looking to fill one position at Walnut Grove Elementary School in the First 5 porgram.

Walnut Grove Elementary School is located in Walnut Grove, CA. The school is nestled in a beautiful community along the Sacramento Delta River just 21 miles from Elk Grove, 17 miles from Galt, 20 miles from Lodi, 27 miles from Stockton, and 28 miles from South, West and Downtown Sacramento areas.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT


River Delta is a K-12 district with an enrollment of 1,880. The District has 8 small schools: (4) K-6 elementary schools; (2) middle schools; and (2) high schools serving the communities of Clarksburg, Hood, Courtland, Walnut Grove, Ryde, Locke, Isleton, Rio Vista, Birds Landing, and Collinsville.

The River Delta Unified School District sits in three counties – Sacramento, Solano, and Yolo. Although it is a tri-county district, it is served by the Sacramento County Office of Education.
River Delta Unifed School District is committed to providing a quality education for all students and has high standards and expectations for students' success in school. DEFINITION

To perform a variety of secretarial and clerical functions in support of the school principal or program director; to provide assistance to student, parents, faculty and the general public; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes within the series by the high level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes within this series. Incumbents in this class work independent and may lead and oversee the work of lower kevel staff. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedure related to assigned area of responsibility.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the assigned Principal.

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS - Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

  • 1. Provide secretarial and clerical support to the school principal; prepare correspondence, memos, and letters; schedule appointment.
  • 2. Serve as receptionist; provide assistance to students, parents, faculty, and the general public; screen calls and visitors; provide information and make referrals.
  • 3. Track and monitor student attendance and enrollment; verify students notes and ensure accuracy; send enrollment count and employee information to the District Office; track independent study requests.
  • 4. Maintain a variety of personnel records; monitor teacher absence forms; perform a daily list of absences.
  • 5. Contact substitute teachers; provide substitutes with bell schedules and related information; direct and escort new teaches to their classrooms; maintain substitute time sheets.
  • 6. Prepare forms and files for new students in special programs; enter data into the computer; file health assessment and related reports in student files.
  • 7. Prepare IEP notices for parents, teachers and psychologists; mail to appropriate sites.
  • 8. Administer new student registration; review and explain school policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • 9. Process purchase requisitions; confer with vendors on purchase requests; monitor expenditures and maintain files; forward approved purchased documents to District Office for payment.
  • 10. Collect funds for student body accounts; prepare deposit slips; make bank deposits; perform bank statement reconciliations; monitor expenditure records.
  • 11. Prepare staff bulletins, newsletters and related communications; edit, proofread and review material.
  • 12. Maintain a school calendar; schedule uses of facility; make arrangements for custodian setups and clean up for special events.
  • 13. Order office supplies and equipment; maintain inventory of supply requests. Arrange for equipment and machine repairs.
  • 14. Assist sick or injured students; contact parents, administer first aid.
  • 15. Assist with lunch count; collect and count nutrition lunch money, assist in serving meals.
  • 16. Open, sort, and distribute mail.
  • 17. Prepare payroll and attendance reports for school site personnel.
  • 18. Lead, oversee and review the work of lower level clerical staff and student assistants.
  • 19. Verify eligibility for free/reduced meal programs and maintain related records for reimbursement purposes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

English grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Business office machines, ie., fax, phone, copier, printer, etc.

Basic mathematic principles.

Modern office practices and procedures, including use of a computer.

Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.

Basic first aid and CPR techniques.

Ability to:

Interpret and explain district and school policies and procedures.

Administer first aid and CPR.

Compose letters, memoranda and other written documents.

Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.

Operate office equipment, including a computer.

Work independently in the absence of a supervisor.

Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

  • -Making observations
  • -Communicating with others
  • -Reading and writing
  • -Operating assigned equipment

Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Three years of administrative and clerical experience, including experience in a public school system as an office assistant or equivalent position.

Training:

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; supplemental course work in secretarial and office skills is highly desirable.
