Senior Catering Operations Manager Job at Gourmondo Catering Co
The primary role of the Senior Catering Operations Manager is to ensure the event process runs smoothly from beginning to end, serving as a bridge between planning and service teams. This position provides training and leadership support to front line events team and ensures catering operations are executed to the Gourmondo's standard, meeting the vision for each event. This role as serves as the primary personnel manager for the service and support staff for the catering division.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Event Operations:
- Support Planning Process: Work directly with Event Planners to make recommendations for best layout, service pieces, staffing needs, PPE needs, etc.
- Coordination of BEO Process: Prepare BEOs for distribution, participate in weekly BEO meetings and lead BEO discussion for assigned events. Responsible for follow-up circulation and timely communication with proper departments.
- Execution: Create and oversee pack outs for events, including load-out and load-in process. Work with Chef team to establish standards for platter sizes, utensils, etc.
- Create equipment budget based upon existing inventory and projected needs
- Equipment & Supplies: Ensure all catering equipment is available and in proper condition for catering needs. Maintain inventory counts for catering equipment and inventory pars for non-food items so they are available when needed (e.g. ice, paper tablecloths, aprons, beer/wine/liquor).
- Rental Management: manage in/out and distribution of outside rentals, communicate/track broken/lost equipment, and confirm/track pre and post event counts.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify issues and opportunities for the department; work in tandem with the Events Team to develop solutions in coordination with all teams affected (e.g. bar program, BEO Communication, event sales).
Personnel Management of Events Support Team & Service Staff:
- Responsible for training, management, and development of event support team and service staff; coordinating with HR to handle any performance management issues. Maintain both short- and long-term view of staffing needs in terms of number and quality of staff. Manages payroll for events team.
- Maintains an up-to-date schedule for support and service team
- Communicates company information, new processes/procedures, and coaches staff to perform to Gourmondo's standards. Works with kitchen to help translate food knowledge to staff.
- Ensure catering staff meet outlined standards for dress code, hygiene, client communication, and professional conduct. Manages uniform inventory and distribution
- On-site Support: As needed, joins the team on-site to provide operational support and set them up for success. Additionally, periodically attends events, as appropriate, to provide active review and coaching for staff performance and service standards.
Who we’re looking for:
- Requires at least 2 years of experience.
- Prior experience in a management or supervisory role preferred.
- Previous experience in events, hospitality and catering preferred.
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Prior management or exposure to budget planning a plus.
- Available to work event-based hours.
- Must have excellent communications skills.
- Complete Food Handlers and Alcohol Service Certifications as required.
- Requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lb.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Salary:
- Exempt, $75,000- 85,000 (DOE)
