Job Title: Student Creative Media Specialist

Department: Instruction

Reports To: Managing Director of Specialty Courses

Compensation Range: $55,000 - $60,000 base

TRS Classification: Non-Classified

Summary:

The Student Creative Media Specialist will work with students in all forms of journalism and creative media in connection with the Epic News Network. The Epic News Network is a state-wide student journalism program for students of Epic Charter Schools. This position will be focused on developing curriculum to expand current photography course options for students grades 7-12. The specialists will also work with other student journalism specialists to coordinate creative media students in creating digital and print media content for Epic News Network productions. The ideal candidate will be available for virtual teaching as well as scheduled in-person activities at Epic’s Oklahoma City and Tulsa virtual learning centers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Develop and teach weekly classes in cooperation with the program co-coordinator.
• Monitor and organize student submissions; attendance, system information, etc.
• Assist in the growth of Epic News Network for school-wide collaborative learning opportunities.
• Contribute to student recruitment efforts.
• Assist in the growth of Instructional Innovation.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• No supervisory responsibilities for this role.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
• Current or previous professional photography experience preferred

• Background in professional photography, print journalism, photojournalism and/or publishing preferred.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret internal communications and reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from families or members of the Epic Live community. Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and coworkers, both verbally and in writing.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic math skills required

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills (required.) Computer proficiency in Windows, Zoom, Microsoft Office, and Google Tools required. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

• Current driver's license and valid car insurance
• Oklahoma Teaching Certificate preferred, but access to an in-house alternative certification program will be offered to a successful candidate.

Other Qualifications:

• Must be able to pass a state-mandated background check after a conditional offer of employment is made
• Must have favorable employment references

The person in this position may work remotely from their home. Meetings in public places and at Epic offices are also required. Some travel around the state to meet with students may be required. The noise level is usually quiet to moderately loud (when students are present.)
