NCE is looking for an experienced Technical Editor to join NCE’s diverse and motivated team. As NCE’s Technical Editor, you will collaborate with staff to produce high-quality written products for clients. The Technical Editor position will work primarily out of one of our main offices located in Northern Nevada, Northern California, or Southern California. This position is full-time and may have the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule. The Technical Editor will also serve as a company-wide resource on writing, style, critical thinking, and other document-related areas such as ADA-compliance, template creation, and Microsoft Word features. Specifically, the Technical Editor will:

  • Edit engineering and scientific reports for organization, logic, accuracy, grammar, punctuation, style, format, and consistency.
  • Coach staff at all levels to improve writing skills and report quality.
  • Train staff in proper use of Microsoft Word styles and templates; create new templates when necessary.
  • Check documents for accessibility features (e.g., Section 508) and remediate as necessary for compliance.
  • Travel periodically between California and Nevada offices to develop rapport and increase use of Technical Editor at all stages of document creation.
  • Assist in content creation, editing, and coordination for NCE’s website.
  • Educate new staff on NCE’s document processes and quality requirements.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical editing education and experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Technical Editor, preferably at an engineering/environmental consulting firm.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills as well as exceptional attention to detail.
  • Significant expertise with Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat DC; ability to quickly self-teach new software and procedures.
  • Ability to both thrive in a deadline-driven environment and to self-motivate to achieve goals when time pressures relax.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with document accessibility features in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat DC.
  • Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and Scientific Style and Format.
  • Experience with complex environmental documents.
  • Experience with grant writing
  • Experience developing and giving presentations using PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams.
  • Background in science or engineering.

Salary range is: $70,000-$80,000 or DOE per year

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
