As you know, a Veterinary Technician is a highly trained, skilled, educated person equivalent to a registered nurse in human medicine. Vet techs are incredibly valued and respected at BFVC for ALL their amazing skills. (*For those of you interested and curious in this position. This is a job that requires advanced education with a specialized degree. Please do not apply if you lack the appropriate qualifications.)

Glad you asked. We are not a typical practice. There are no cliques, no BS, and nobody is too fancy to clean a cage or help a co-worker. We have a legit “No-Drama” policy and adhere to it. There is no “that’s not my job” attitude. We are truly a team who all have the same goal: exceptional care of patients and clients. Yes, clients too. While we all love the animals, their owners also need our care and support.

Our techs are a key point of communication with our clients. They give status updates on sick and post-surgical patients, review discharge instructions, perform laser therapy alongside clients, take blood, and sometimes even treatment plans. Upbeat, friendly, clear client communication is vital to this role, and we have lots of great clients and pets in our practice that know our techs and ask for them by name.

Sounding good...cool. LET'S TALK TECH & TOYS. As a paperless practice with Avimark software, we embrace modern technology in practice. Digital x-rays (both standard and dental), GE Ultrasound, Companion Laser Unit, Abaxis Lab machines including Istat, multiple IV and syringe pumps for CRIs are just some of the equipment we use daily. We also love our Baer hugger. We are totally open to adding new technology and "toys" to improve care and progress with the times. New stuff is fun and cool!

Our LVT's have extensive experience and are excellent communicators and teachers. They are also excellent students who are eager to learn new techniques and ideas from others. BFVC is progressive and open to new approaches, meds, techniques, etc, from all who offer them, especially our techs!

Wondering what else makes BFVC a great place for a LVT? No boarding, grooming, or doggie daycare - never. So, we have none of the headaches that come with all that. Also, no on-call and no after hours. We have lives, too, and that's why there are ERs and urgent care centers!

Do you also enjoy interesting and unique patients? We provide pro bono care to Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown. They periodically bring us a wide-ranging caseload from fox to fawn, snapping turtle to seagull, osprey to owl, and once, a rather famous and very handsome young 35 lb. Lynx whom we named, Leonardo deCatprio. The name stuck, and he is now residing at the Holbrook Ecology Center. Check him out! Just recently, we also looked after the famous Long Island Coyote! OMG - so handsome (and interestingly, a crypt!!!)

Do you maybe need an bit of a funky schedule? We are flexible! We adapt our schedule to fit what works for our staff. We know that kids and parents need care, that parent-teacher conferences happen, and in-laws sometimes visit. Life happens for all of us, too. All we ask is reasonable notice to make it work.

Need car repairs, down payment, fancy new kicks, or you're in yet another wedding...There are opportunities for extra $$$ for early mornings, extra shifts, and even to stay overnight with post-op or sick pets. Also, many of our staff provide pet-sitting services to the pets and clients they come to know. This is all up to you - but all the connections are already in place which makes it easy.

Finally, BFVC is much more than a workplace. We are a true second home and a supportive family. Many of our team are with us since we opened our doors in 2012, and those who have joined over the years have only added and enhanced our blended family. We enjoy great times as a family too - like a Summer Sunday at the beach, backyard bbqs, karaoke, game / movie nights, cookie-making and crafting parties, boozy brunch, Ducks baseball, and pot luck lunches. We are always up for a fun time!

Let's talk about the COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Our technicians are paid well based upon experience. Technicians are salaried professionals working approximately 37-40ish
hours weekly. Additional benefits for FT employees include the best retirement plan out there: a profit-sharing, matching 401K. We provide 100% coverage for health insurance, paid CE including paid time off to attend, paid NYS license dues, and of course, paid vacation, personal/sick and bereavement time. Finally, we are closed for the 6 major holidays every year, which are paid days too.

A complete uniform of scrubs including under scrub t-shirts, personalized embroidered scrubs, nursing jackets, and fleece jackets for those chilly days is also provided.

Finally, our team receives very generous pet care benefits with exams always free!

SCHEDULE: Full-time: 4 fixed weekdays plus a rotating Saturday schedule which means a PAID Sat off monthly. We will absolutely consider part-time, as well. Our latest nights are Mon/Fri until 7, midweek until 5:30, and just until 1 pm on Sat. We start at 8am. CLosed on Sundays always and NO ON CALL.
