United Health Services is seeking a Virtual Patient Safety Observer to join our Wilson Clinical Resources Team in Johnson City, NY. This is a benefits-eligible position.
Virtual Patient Safety Observer Overview
Under the supervision of an RN, the Virtual Patient Safety Observer is responsible for the observation of the patient to promote and protect the patient’s safety. The Virtual Patient Safety Observer identifies safety concerns, documents safety-related observations, and communicates information regarding the patient’s safety to the nursing staff. The Virtual Safety Observer intervenes when there is a potential or actual threat to the patient’s safety.
UHS Wilson Medical Center is a 280-bed hospital and Level II Trauma Center. In this position, you’ll serve a medical facility that is a regional leader in cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and neurosciences, cancer care, maternity, and high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, blood disorder treatment, and physical therapy and rehabilitation. Wilson is a bustling hospital and is a 24-hour designated stroke and chest pain center.
Virtual Patient Safety Observer Key Responsibilities and Expectations
- Provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
- Demonstrates understanding and proficiency in the use of the Patient Safety Observation System application
- Provides prompt notification of appropriate clinical staff if a patient requires assistance. Summons the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance by the communication device and/or Staff-Assist Alert Alarm
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate care to patient population requiring video monitoring
- Participates in the collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Monitors for and maintains patient environmental safety. Notifies clinical staff of potential safety hazards
- Wears headset at all times and verbally redirects patient using the digital 2-way audio feature. Remains engaged with patients continuously during shift
- Participates in reporting with monitor staff when arriving for shifts, and upon completion of shift. Reviews pertinent information and behaviors
- Knowledgeable and supportive of patient and institutional confidentiality and related hospital policies
- Documents patient activity and PSO interventions per facility protocol
- Provides one-on-one companionship/supervision with patients

Position Qualifications
Minimum:
- BLS (CPR)
Preferred:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
