This position is a full time, 37.50 hours per week, 10-month position (August 1 – May 31) with the possibility of additional per diem work during the summer as needed.

Early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays/recess occasionally required.

Position Focus:

The Embedded Mental Health Provider supports a diverse group of graduate and professional students at the Yale School of the Environment (YSE) by providing psychotherapy and therapeutic interventions for students. The provider will work in an office situated at the School of the Environment to ease student access to mental health treatment. The provider is expected to be available for same-day appointments, and to provide intervention and support to students in need. They will work with students to arrange appropriate ongoing care or resources. Leadership at YSE may also connect them to students for consultation regarding matters at the school.

The Embedded Mental Health Provider is expected to provide both individual therapy and group therapy for YSE students. They will participate in the development of short-term patient treatment, in collaboration with the Mental Health & Counseling (MHC) department. They can assess and diagnose mental illness. They will provide culturally competent treatment to patients of varied racial/ethnic identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and sexual/gender identities, including international students from around the globe. They will serve as liaison to patients, families, and clinical staff on issues and programmatic initiatives pertaining to psychological services. The provider may devise group therapy or other mental health related workshops for students as needed. They serve as a liaison to related resources across the Yale community and develop and deliver outreach programs to the YSE student community. They will be expected to adhere to psychology code of ethical conduct and abide by laws affecting the practice of psychology.

As this role is to enhance student access to services through proximity, some evening and weekend availability is expected. They will provide mental health emergency coverage and will respond to acute or urgent needs of YSE students in coordination and in addition to the Mental Health and Counseling department and Acute Care. The provider will need to work closely with the YSE leadership team and the Yale Mental Health and Counseling department to form a collaborative relationship to support student mental health, but will be expected to work independently to create a suite of mental health programming for the school including but not limited supporting students of color, international students, first generation students, LGBTQIA+ students, etc. The provider will interact with internal contacts such as patients, clinicians, social workers and other medical staff, and administrators with regard to clinical programs and program development. They may also interact with external contacts such as outpatient therapists, residential treatment centers, and other mental health institutions.

The position reports to the Associate Chief Education Outreach in MHC with onsite management by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at YSE. This position is a full time, 10-month position (August 1 – May 31) with the possibility of additional per diem work during the summer as needed.

Essential Duties

1. Conduct patient evaluations and assesses patient progress or acceptability or psychotherapy programs. 2. Consults with the MHC department for long term therapy or other support of student. 3. Provides individual assessment, intervention, and group therapy to graduate and professional students. 4. Evaluates, assesses and modifies psychological treatment plans. 5. Maintains patient charts and reports. 6. Plans and coordinates the therapeutic activities of an individual or group. 7. Oversees the development of individual and group psychotherapy plans. 8. Establishes positive relations with patients in order to administer appropriate treatment. 9. Develops materials for educational programs and group events for students. 10. Serves as liaison to patients, families and clinical staff on issues and programs pertaining to psychological services. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s degree in Social Work and two years’ experience post licensure providing clinical care; or Ph.D in Clinical or Counseling Psychology; or Psy.D.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Knowledge of Yale University. Knowledge or interest in working with graduate and professional school students. Two years of related work experience in a university setting or with young adults in the 24-35 age range.

Licensure as required in the State of Connecticut.
