Position Focus:
The Embedded Mental Health Provider is expected to provide both individual therapy and group therapy for YSE students. They will participate in the development of short-term patient treatment, in collaboration with the Mental Health & Counseling (MHC) department. They can assess and diagnose mental illness. They will provide culturally competent treatment to patients of varied racial/ethnic identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and sexual/gender identities, including international students from around the globe. They will serve as liaison to patients, families, and clinical staff on issues and programmatic initiatives pertaining to psychological services. The provider may devise group therapy or other mental health related workshops for students as needed. They serve as a liaison to related resources across the Yale community and develop and deliver outreach programs to the YSE student community. They will be expected to adhere to psychology code of ethical conduct and abide by laws affecting the practice of psychology.
As this role is to enhance student access to services through proximity, some evening and weekend availability is expected. They will provide mental health emergency coverage and will respond to acute or urgent needs of YSE students in coordination and in addition to the Mental Health and Counseling department and Acute Care. The provider will need to work closely with the YSE leadership team and the Yale Mental Health and Counseling department to form a collaborative relationship to support student mental health, but will be expected to work independently to create a suite of mental health programming for the school including but not limited supporting students of color, international students, first generation students, LGBTQIA+ students, etc. The provider will interact with internal contacts such as patients, clinicians, social workers and other medical staff, and administrators with regard to clinical programs and program development. They may also interact with external contacts such as outpatient therapists, residential treatment centers, and other mental health institutions.
The position reports to the Associate Chief Education Outreach in MHC with onsite management by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs at YSE. This position is a full time, 10-month position (August 1 – May 31) with the possibility of additional per diem work during the summer as needed.
