Job Summary
Job Summary: The Department of Nutrition Science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana invites applications for a non-tenure track Lecturer/Nutrition Education Assistant Director position. Successful candidates must exhibit a passion for teaching and mentoring of students and are expected to be highly motivated. Responsibilities of this position will be split evenly between teaching courses in nutrition and counseling at the Recreation and Wellness Center. This individual will report to the Department Head in Nutrition Science with performance input from the Senior Assistant Director of Wellness.
For the time spent as Lecturer, the successful candidate will be expected to teach 4 courses per year, split between fall and spring semesters. Courses may be at the undergraduate and/or graduate level and may include laboratory courses. The individual will contribute to ongoing curriculum development and assist in services to the Department of Nutrition Science as needed. Responsibilities during the time spent as Nutrition Education Assistant Director include counseling students to prioritize nutritional health. The individual is expected to build, develop, and cultivate relationships with numerous divisions, campus, and community constituents; to translate scientific evidence into practical applications; to serve as a resource for dietary supplements and evaluate safety, legality, efficacy, and cost; to interpret, summarize, and share body composition and bone density data; and to generate and track nutrition counseling revenue.
Education
Master’s degree in areas such as dietetics, food and nutrition, health promotion, or related fields. Registered Dietitian credential and continuing education through CDR (Commission on Dietetic Registration) required. Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in therapeutic and clinical nutrition counseling and education for individuals and groups or similar experiences.
Qualifications
Demonstrated ability to independently manage all aspects of comprehensive diet, nutrition, and counseling program; ability to establish long- and short-term goals; self-motivated, service minded and adept at solving problems; possess effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build and cultivate relationships with a variety of constituents.
Preferred: Successful college level teaching experience.
