Red Rock Recovery Center is a substance use disorder treatment program with multiple facilities in the Denver Metropolitan Area. PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Medical billing and collections specialist is responsible for all functions related to the collections of payment on patient accounts. This includes monitoring claim status, researching rejections, denials, submitting appeals, and documenting all account activities in addition to working with patients and families with account questions and payment arrangements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work outstanding accounts receivables identified through aging reports
- Communicate with insurance carriers to follow up on claim status
- Resolve billing issues to rectify denials or underpayments
- Process appeals online or via paper submission
- Update billing records with claim status information
- Ensure each patient’s information is accurate and up to date
- Coordinate and/or clarify with other teams, when necessary, regarding information that is incomplete or inaccurate for proper account/claim adjudication
- Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to insure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Answer calls from patients/responsible parties to assist with account questions
- Contact patient/Responsible party on outstanding balances
- Examine patient statements for accuracy
- Cross train in other functions of the department
- Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to verification of benefits, claim submission
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work on-site and spend most working hours on the phone.
- Be able to multitask and manage time effectively
- Proven work experience as a Medical Biller and Collector or similar role
- Genuine interest in helping people.
- Knowledge and understanding of insurance carrier contracts
- Ability to read and understand an explanation of benefits
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1 year work experience in medical billing and collections.
High school diploma or equivalent.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to communicate effectively via spoken, written and electronic means.
- Proficient use of computers, phones, and other office equipment as indicated
- Billing software and electronic health record System Software
- Access: Elevator and stairs
- Work Hours/ Shifts: 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
