South Bend Orthopaedics is searching for a qualified candidate to join our accounting team!

Responsible for assisting the Director of Finance with accounting functions including preparing, examining, and providing financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Associates degree in accounting.

Experience: Minimum of two years of accounting experience, preferable in a health care organization.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and understanding of SBO’s policies and procedures, including HIPAA privacy compliance
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices and financial management.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and cost accounting principles.
  • Working knowledge of computer applications related to accounting, budgeting and financial functions.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development to train, delegate, and mentor staff.
  • Skill in gathering and reporting information.
  • Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, applying, interpreting the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Must be highly organized with strong time management skills.
  • Strong work ethic, reliable, good sense of judgment with positive attitude.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and communicate information effectively.
  • Ability to prepare statistical and narrative accounting reports.
  • Ability to perform mathematical computations accurately and quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member and organize/prioritize tasks effectively.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Assists in the daily activities of the accounting department to ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, employee expense reports, patient refunds, payroll, and petty cash.

2. Manages the processing of accounts payable according to departmental policies and procedures.

3. Responsible for processing payroll accurately according to departmental policies and procedures.

a. Maintains the employee files in the payroll and timecard databases.

b. Processes payroll on a bi-weekly basis, consistent with departmental procedures, including: auditing time cards for accuracy and consistency with personnel policies, importing files,generating direct deposits, transmitting bank files, and printing audit report.

c. Responsible for processing child support payments, court-ordered garnishments, and other authorized payroll deductions.

d. Prepares and files all federal, state, and local payroll taxes and returns, including employee W-2’s.

4. Assists the Director of Finance with monthly closing procedures, including auditing, posting journal entries, and preparing financial statements.

5. Assists the Director of Finance with independent audits, including interim and year-end audits, 401(k) and worker’s compensation.

6. Maintains and reviews the Chart of Accounts, organizing general ledger accounts by location, product line and provider. Audits the Trial Balance and verifies the accuracy of coding, classifying, and posting.

7. Processes bank transfers and note payments as directed. Completes bank reconciliations and reconciles petty cash.

8. Processes annual 1099’s according to departmental procedures.

9. Maintains the cash receipts journals.

10. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing professional relationships.

11. Maintains strictest confidentiality and discretion in all presentations, correspondence and communications.

12. Performs other related work as required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Requires sitting for long periods of time. Requires some lifting, bending, reaching and carrying up to 40 pounds. Requires working on multiple tasks with stringent deadlines. Requires manual dexterity for operating a computer, calculator and phone.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in an office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. Minimal exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinical/surgery center/office environment. Frequent contact with staff and the public. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive.
